No file handy?
What goes in and what comes out
You bring
- A link to one video or song on YouTube, Bilibili, TikTok, Instagram, SoundCloud and other sites
- Or a public file, Drive or Dropbox link
- Or the video file itself
You get
- A score you can play beside the video’s sound and edit
- A PDF in staff notation, guitar TAB or jianpu, free
- MusicXML and MIDI once the score is unlocked
How it works
- Paste the link above. The workspace opens with it, signing in first if needed, and checks what the link holds: its title, length and a quick listen.
- Choose what is playing: one instrument or voice, solo piano, or a band. A band shows its price before it starts.
- Our server downloads the sound and writes the score. Listen beside the original and fix what you hear.
- Download the PDF, or unlock MusicXML and MIDI for notation software or a DAW.
Only fetch music you have the right to use.

Good to know
- Private, members-only and DRM-protected media, and anything behind a subscription, can’t be fetched. Sites sometimes block downloads for a while; dropping the file in always works.
- For guitar, YouTube to guitar tab opens the score with TAB under the staff and shows how to match the player’s tuning and capo.
- A busy mix is hard to write out as one line. For a song with a band, choose “a band” to get each instrument on its own staff, which uses credits.
- You can also paste a link in a chat with ChatGPT or Claude once ScoreStarling is connected; see the connection guide.
Questions and answers
Which sites can I paste links from?
YouTube, Bilibili, TikTok, Instagram, SoundCloud and others, 19 video and music sites in all, plus public HTTPS links to a file and Google Drive or Dropbox share links. A site can refuse the download; then download the video yourself and drop the file in.
Why did my link not work?
The workspace says why: a private or members-only video, an age-restricted one that needs signing in, a page that is a playlist or channel rather than one video, or music a service encrypts so it plays only in its own app. Those can’t be fetched by our server.
Is it free?
A voice, one instrument or solo piano is free, up to three a day, with free PDF, MP3 and WAV downloads. A band, every instrument on its own staff, uses 40 credits a minute after you agree to the price. MusicXML and MIDI need the score unlocked for 15 credits, once.
Can I transcribe only part of a long video?
The first five minutes of the sound are written out. To start later in a video, download it, trim it and drop the file in.
