Free, up to five minutes a piece; three a day, solo piano included, or up to 100 a day with Plus.
Solo piano
Free, both hands and pedal, up to five minutes a piece.
Band or several instruments
40 credits a minute, each instrument on its own staff, up to five minutes a piece.
In progress
One score at a time, or five with Plus. Scores from Plus and from accounts with pack credits go first in the queue; free scores still run, after them.

Never charged
Editing, listening, PDFs (with a footer line), MP3 and WAV, imports and previews.
Given back
Failed transcriptions, recordings with no notes and problems on our side return their credits.
Invite friends
Every account has an invitation link on its Share page. When a friend joins with it and finishes a first transcription, free ones included, you both get 100 credits, valid 30 days. Up to five friends earn rewards.

Questions

Before you buy

Anything else about your account is in the Help center.

Do I need credits for one instrument or piano?

No. A voice, one instrument and solo piano are free, up to five minutes a piece and three a day. So are reading sheet music and score files, editing, listening, and the PDF, MP3 and WAV downloads. Credits are for band recordings and for unlocking a score’s MusicXML, MIDI and ABC.

What counts as a band recording?

Any recording where several instruments play together: a band, a jazz combo, a song with its accompaniment. Each instrument is written on its own staff. ScoreStarling listens to your upload first and suggests the right choice.

What does unlocking a score do?

A free score can be edited, played and downloaded as a PDF, MP3 or WAV, with a small footer line on its pages. Unlocking it costs 15 credits, once. After that its MusicXML, MIDI and ABC files download as often as you like, and the footer line goes. A band transcription paid with credits is already unlocked, and Plus unlocks every score while it lasts.

When are credits taken?

Before a band transcription starts, ScoreStarling measures the recording and shows the price. Agreeing reserves the credits, and a finished score uses exactly that amount. A failed transcription returns them. If your balance is short, you are offered the part of the recording it covers. Unlocking a score also asks first, and credits are spent on a score at most once.

How do I get free credits?

Every account gets 100 free credits every month; accounts with Plus get Plus credits instead. You can earn more by inviting friends: when a friend joins with your link and finishes a first transcription, free ones included, you both get 100 credits, valid 30 days, for up to five friends. A beta code, if you have one, gives 300 credits for 30 days and the beta price for Plus; each account can use one.

What is the beta price?

Plus is $14.99 a month. An account that redeemed a beta code can subscribe at $9.99 a month for 12 months, if it does so within 30 days of redeeming. If you cancel and subscribe again later, Plus is at the list price.

Can I buy in ChatGPT or Claude?

No. Plans and packs are bought here on scorestarling.com. The workspace, ChatGPT and Claude all use the credits on your account, and the assistant asks before it spends any.

Do credits expire?

Free monthly credits end with the month, and Plus credits end with each paid month; neither rolls over. Pack credits last 90 days from purchase, and invitation and beta credits 30 days. Plus credits are spent first, then whichever expire soonest.

How do I cancel Plus?

Choose Manage subscription on your Plans and credits page. Plus stays active until the end of the month you paid for, and pack credits keep their own expiry. When Plus ends, a score that was neither a band transcription nor unlocked on its own goes back to the free state.

How can I pay?

Through Stripe’s secure checkout, by card and by the other methods Stripe offers where you are. Prices are in US dollars, with taxes added at checkout.
