Band recording to sheet music a part for every player

Upload a rehearsal or a gig, or paste a video link. ScoreStarling writes each instrument on its own staff, lets you check the score against the recording, and downloads every part at once.

Drop a band recording or video here

MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG, AIFF or a video, up to 95 MB, or a link from YouTube, Bilibili and 17 other sites. Choose Band or several instruments; the price shows before anything starts.

ScoreStarling writes each instrument in a band recording on its own staff and exports every part as a separate PDF. It uses 40 credits a minute of music, shown before it starts, and the score is unlocked for MusicXML and MIDI when it finishes.

What goes in and what comes out

You bring

  • A rehearsal, gig or studio recording: MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG or AIFF
  • A video file, or a link from YouTube, Bilibili, TikTok, SoundCloud and other sites
  • Up to five minutes of music; a longer recording keeps its first five

You get

  • A full score, each instrument on its own staff
  • Every part at once, a folder each in one ZIP
  • MusicXML and MIDI of the score and of each part
  • MP3 or WAV of the score, to rehearse with

How it works

  1. Choose the recording or paste the link above. The workspace opens with it, after sign-in if needed.
  2. Choose Band or several instruments. ScoreStarling suggests the instruments it hears; keep, add or remove them. You can also set a time signature, one fixed tempo or alignment to the beat.
  3. Check the price in credits and agree. The score opens when it is ready.
  4. Play the score beside the recording, loop a bar, fix wrong notes, then download the score and all the parts.

If you only want the melody, choose one instrument or voice: it is free, and the workspace listens first and suggests a choice.

Which groups it suits

  • Brass and wind groups: trumpets, trombone, horn, tuba, saxophones, clarinet, flute. See brass quintet to sheet music.
  • Strings: violin, viola, cello and double bass, or a string section. The viola is written in alto clef.
  • Rock, pop and jazz bands: guitars, bass, piano, organ, synths and voice.

What gives a good result

  • Each instrument clear and audible, with little reverb or crowd noise. A desk recording beats a phone at the back of the hall.
  • Instruments in the same range, such as a trumpet and a horn, are the easiest to mix up: follow each staff while the recording plays.
  • For a piece longer than five minutes, cut the recording at a bar line and transcribe each half.

Good to know

  • The score is a first draft. Listen through each part and correct it before handing it out.
  • Each kind of instrument gets one staff: two trumpets or two violins share one, and a choir comes out as chords on a single staff, not split into soprano, alto, tenor and bass.
  • Trumpet and horn parts are written for trumpet in B♭ and horn in F, and play back at concert pitch.
  • The first five minutes are written out, for every account.
  • Audio downloads play the score with instrument sounds. They are not separated tracks of your recording.

Questions and answers

Can it write each instrument of a band on its own staff?

Yes. Choose Band or several instruments, check the instruments it heard, and each one you keep gets its own staff, MIDI track and printable part.

How much does a band recording cost?

40 credits a minute, counted in 10-second steps, so a three-minute song is 120 credits. The exact price shows before it starts, nothing is spent until you agree, and a failed transcription returns the credits. Every account gets 100 free credits a month in 2026. See pricing.

Can I print a separate part for each player?

Yes. Download’s All parts gives every instrument at once, a folder each in one ZIP, with a PDF per part. A band score paid with credits is already unlocked, so its MusicXML and MIDI parts come too.

Are drums written out?

If you keep drums in the instrument list, they come out on a drum staff, but editing them is limited and jianpu leaves them out. For a drum chart on its own, a drum transcription app fits better.

Can I use a concert video from YouTube or Bilibili?

Yes. Paste the link and only the sound is used. Private, members-only and DRM-protected videos can’t be fetched; download the video and drop the file in instead.

Can I keep working in MuseScore, Sibelius or Dorico?

Yes. Download the MusicXML of the whole score or of each part; it opens in MuseScore, Dorico, Sibelius and Finale with its staves and instrument names.

Can I do this in ChatGPT or Claude?

Yes, once ScoreStarling is connected: send the recording or the link and ask for every instrument written out. The assistant shows the price and asks before it spends credits. See the connection guide.
