# ScoreStarling > ScoreStarling is an all-in-one AI sheet music assistant. Ask Starling, your music sidekick, for > anything to do with sheet music: write down a recording, video or song link, read sheet music PDFs > and pictures, MIDI, MusicXML and ABC, hear the score against the original, fix, transpose or > arrange it, and export sheet music, numbered notation (jianpu), MIDI, MusicXML or audio. It is in > public beta, in a web workspace and inside AI assistants through a hosted MCP server. ScoreStarling makes editable scores from recordings, videos, links, printed music, score files or notation text. Check the result against its source, edit on a staff, read staff, guitar TAB or jianpu, then export. Product facts checked 2026-10-19. - Name: ScoreStarling (Score + Starling), recalling Mozart’s starling and K. 453. - Chinese brand names: [椋鸟记谱](https://scorestarling.com/zh-hans) (Simplified Chinese) and [椋鳥記譜](https://scorestarling.com/zh-hant) (Traditional Chinese) refer to the same ScoreStarling product. - Access: public beta, open to everyone with Google, Apple or email sign-in. Concurrent scores: 1 on a free account, 5 with Plus. Without an account, see the first 30 seconds free. Signed in, a whole piece is 10 credits, and you can still choose a free 30-second preview first; an account can start about 10 free previews a day, at most 3 of them a band. Without an account, only the 30-second preview is available (no band or Starling). Scores of Plus accounts and of accounts that bought a credit pack in the last 90 days go first in the transcription queue; free scores still run after them, and one that has waited ten minutes joins them in order of arrival. Submitted to the ChatGPT and Claude app directories on October 6, 2026 and in review; until listed, connect by address. - Pricing (scorestarling.com/pricing): one credits wallet; 1 credit is about 1 US cent. A score from a recording of a voice, one instrument or solo piano, or from a sheet music PDF or photo, uses 10 credits a piece: it is transcribed in full, shows its first 30 seconds free, and paying shows the whole. A band recording, each instrument on its own staff (transcribed by our partner Mirelo), uses 30 credits a minute, rounded up to 10 seconds; its free preview makes only the first 30 seconds, then the whole piece is priced. Starling Refine (AI proofreading of a finished transcription, saved as a new version) is free and unlimited with Plus; other accounts get one free try a month. Starling chat uses credits by use, about 1-5 a reply, never more than 10, shown under each reply. Opening the user's own MusicXML, MIDI, Guitar Pro or ABC file, editing and listening are free. Paid tasks start only after the user agrees to the price; failed tasks return credits. Free accounts get 100 free credits a month, granted on its first activity in a month (UTC+8) and expiring at month end. Plus is USD 14.99 a month, or USD 143.88 a year, for 1,000 credits every month and every download format (with a beta code redeemed in the last 30 days, USD 9.99 a month for 12 months, or USD 95.88 for the first year of yearly Plus); packs are USD 4.99 for 200 or USD 19.99 for 1,000 credits (90 days). Purchases happen only on the website; ChatGPT and Claude use the account's credits and show no money prices, plans or checkout links. - Downloads follow the account: every account downloads PDF (staff, guitar TAB and jianpu), page images, parts, text TAB, MP3 and WAV; a free account's pages carry a small watermark, "Made with ScoreStarling". Active Plus or preserved historical download access provides MusicXML/MXL, MIDI, Guitar Pro (.gp5), ABC and MEI, without the watermark. A score opened from the user's own file always downloads in its original format. Previews cannot be downloaded. Every PDF has page numbers. In ChatGPT and Claude, paying for a piece uses existing credits only after the user agrees. - Invitations: every account has an invitation link (scorestarling.com/r/CODE, page /share); when a friend joins with it and finishes a first transcription of a recording, both get 100 credits valid 30 days, for up to 5 friends. A beta code gives 300 credits valid 30 days, one per account. - Recordings: WAV, MP3, FLAC, M4A, OGG, AIFF, video soundtracks, browser recording, public HTTPS file/Drive/Dropbox share links, and links from 19 video and music sites including YouTube, Bilibili, TikTok, Instagram and SoundCloud. Access restrictions can prevent downloads; private, DRM and subscription media is not supported. Uploads up to 95 MiB; WAV, AIFF and FLAC are kept as 320 kbit/s MP3. One instrument or voice and solo piano cover the first 6 minutes (15 with active Plus); Band covers up to 30 minutes with credits and active Plus, 6 without it. Account-specific duration and price are shown before confirmation. - Engines: one instrument or voice uses Spotify's Basic Pitch; solo piano uses Kong and colleagues’ model, both hands and pedal, and estimates bars, pickup and 4/4, 3/4, 6/8 or 12/8. Both run on ScoreStarling's servers and use 10 credits a piece. A band uses our partner Mirelo only when the user chooses it and writes each instrument, drums included, on its own staff and MIDI track; its price in credits is shown before it starts, and its meter is detected or chosen. Tempo is detected or supplied; estimates need review. One instrument or voice writes a detected single-note line on one staff (a chord part keeps its notes) and starts in 4/4. - Written music: Audiveris reads clean printed staff PDFs/pictures (up to 12 PDF pages, 60 MP; 10 credits a piece). MusicXML/MXL, MIDI, ABC and Guitar Pro files (.gp, .gpx, .gp3-.gp5, .gtp; read with MuseScore, keeping their tuning and strings but not a capo) open for free. Paste ABC/MusicXML in the workspace or use remote MCP create_score; up to 30 minutes of playback. MIDI imports write drum tracks on a drum staff and use the first meter. Playback plays repeats once. - Assistant reading: an image-capable assistant can attempt a photo, jianpu or lead-sheet reading, write ABC and create a score via MCP. This depends on the assistant, is not automatic jianpu recognition by Audiveris, and needs source comparison and human review. - Notation: staff is editable; numbered notation (jianpu, 简谱) is read-only from the last saved revision, as 1=key (movable do), 1=C (fixed do, black keys marked) or the melody only. The choice stays with the score across workspace/panel, and Download's PDF follows it. Jianpu PDFs carry supported lyrics, repeats/endings, dynamics, grace notes and key/meter changes. Voices are combined; lyrics/structure follow the leading part. Tuplets of 3, 5 and 7 are written under an arc with their number; a rhythm jianpu cannot write is refused, naming the part and bar. Score playback still plays repeats once. Staff notation uses MuseScore for performance MIDI and Verovio/Leipzig for display; written notation is read as supplied. - Guitar TAB (since October 8, 2026): a guitar, bass or ukulele part shows TAB under its staff or TAB alone (the Staff | TAB | Jianpu switch, or Score settings → Guitar TAB), in the workspace, the chat panel and over MCP. Tunings: standard, drop D, half/whole step down, drop C, DADGAD, open G/D/E, 7-string, 4/5/6-string bass, ukulele and baritone ukulele, or any tuning an assistant names; a capo up to fret 12 (frets count from it). Strings follow MuseScore's rule by default (the highest string, so the lowest fret) or a fewest-hand-shifts plan; a note can move to another string at the same pitch, or take a typed fret, which changes its pitch. Notes no string can play are marked. PDFs and parts print the TAB, MusicXML/MXL carry TAB staves with strings and frets at sounding pitch, and text TAB pastes into a message. Guitar Pro 5 files (.gp5) carry every part, guitars, basses and ukuleles on the strings and frets their TAB shows; they opened in MuseScore 4.7.5 (October 11, 2026) and Guitar Pro 8.1.3 on macOS (October 12, 2026), where a Chinese title or track name shows garbled and repeats play in full, while ScoreStarling plays them once. A file that arrives with TAB staves is read once. No bends, slides, hammer-ons, rhythm slashes or chord diagrams; one tuning and capo per piece. Showing TAB never changes playback or uses credits. - Editing: pitch, duration, rests, chord tones, dynamics, timbre, key, clef, meter, pickups, beaming, titles, transposition and doubling/halving note values with the tempo; assistants can also set note velocity. Operation-specific limits apply. Previews, undo/redo, revisions and anchored comment threads support review. Browser drafts save in the background; this is not fully offline. For single-part recordings, Score settings → Layout rewrites the existing notes as one melody line, one staff with chords or two staves for a piano sound, with an eighth/sixteenth shortest note. One melody line removes extra notes from playback; Undo restores them. Two staves splits only a wide range. This does not run transcription again. - Listening/output: loop and crossfade original vs MIDI synthesis, 128 General MIDI sounds. PDF, pages, parts, MusicXML/MXL, MIDI, ABC, MEI, jianpu PDF, text TAB, MP3/WAV playback renders (Downloads above says which need active Plus). Audio exports are synthesized scores, not separated stems. - Transcribe again: Score settings → Recording makes a new score with any offered choice from a retained recording, keeping the first. Not for notation/sheet music; tempo is detected again. - Starling (October 2026): ScoreStarling's own AI assistant, for every signed-in account, with nothing to install: a chat page (scorestarling.com/agent) and a sidebar beside the open score in the workspace. It uses the same tools as remote MCP under the user's account: it checks and transcribes an attached recording, video, score file or link (asking before anything uses credits), edits, writes TAB or jianpu, makes arrangements as new scores and exports. The page shows each score as the interactive score panel; the sidebar sees the selected bars and the playhead, marks the notes it changed and undoes a whole reply at once. Chats are saved to the account. Each reply uses about 1-5 credits, never more than 10. Its replies can be wrong, so check the score. - Remote MCP: https://mcp.scorestarling.com/mcp over Streamable HTTP, OAuth and dynamic client registration, no API key. ChatGPT has signed in and run tools in real conversations since October 3, 2026, and Claude since October 6; ChatGPT lists ScoreStarling in its plugin directory (October 2026). Codex and other compatible clients have setup guides. Initialization/tool/result guidance and the read-only get_workflow_guide work without native plugin skills. Direct MCP does not install those skills. - MCP Apps: a supporting chat host can show a score panel for selection, conversation and previews; support depends on the client. It has opened in ChatGPT and Claude in testing. - Browser WebMCP Beta: native document-bound tools in the open signed-in workspace, automatically registered where supported; needs a WebMCP-capable browser AND a capable tab agent. Separate from remote MCP/plugin. Reads, selection, typed edits, previews/history, comments, view and saved-revision export links share the session/owner/origin/revision checks. Browser tools expose no service credential; paying for a piece, or a band transcription the user already uploaded, starts only after the user approves its exact credits. Local desktop browser checks exist; hosted-session, universal agent and mobile compatibility are not established. Setup and permissions: https://scorestarling.com/mcp#webmcp - Accuracy: automatic transcription/reading and review are first drafts, not certified scores. Listen or compare with the source and correct before performing or sharing. - Contact: support page; the website publishes no email address. ## Pages - [Home](https://scorestarling.com/): ScoreStarling is an all-in-one AI sheet music assistant.
